In this edition of “Talks with Ramiro Calle”, renowned author and spiritual teacher, Ramiro Calle, dives into a deep conversation with Alejandro Guerra, the founder of Wake up Platform.

This revealing interview takes us on a journey from the dark abysses of addiction to spiritual enlightenment and the birth of a one-of-a-kind platform. In this exploration, Ramiro opens the doors to Alejandro’s life, starting with the tentative beginnings of Wake up Platform and his personal motivation.

A Beginning from the Deep:

Alejandro Guerra immerses us in his personal beginnings, a period marked by a series of devastating events that brought him to the brink of despair. The loss of his grandparents, who raised him, followed by the tragic deaths of his parents, plunged Alejandro into a dark abyss. These blows of life led him to turn to alcohol and addictive substances as a misguided attempt to fill the emptiness he felt inside.
The loss of loved ones is a universally painful and heartbreaking experience. The death of someone close to us can leave a deep void in our hearts and a sense of desolation that seems insurmountable. However, despite the immense sadness involved, the loss of loved ones can also be a catalyst for a profound personal and spiritual awakening.

The Impermanence of Life:

The loss of a loved one brings us abruptly face to face with the reality of the impermanence of life. It reminds us that we are all vulnerable and that human existence is ephemeral. This profound reflection on impermanence can lead us to question our priorities and rethink the way we live our lives.

Deepening of Emotions and Empathy:

Loss also immerses us in an ocean of complex emotions. As in the case of Alejandro. we experience sadness, grief, anger and bewilderment, and these emotions can be overwhelming. However, by allowing ourselves to feel and process these emotions, we develop greater understanding and empathy for ourselves and others who are going through similar situations. We become more aware of the fragility of the human condition and this often drives us to be more compassionate and caring.

The need to look inside:

The loss of loved ones can also be a call to Self-Knowledge. It makes us question our relationships, our priorities and our choices in life. It forces us to confront profound questions about the meaning and purpose of our existence. This introspection can be the starting point for a process of personal and spiritual growth.

The Search for Meaning:

According to Alejandro, losing your parents makes you look at life from your own point of view, without the influence of those who are no longer there. For many people, the loss of loved ones triggers a search for greater meaning in life. They may seek solace and answers in spirituality, religion or philosophy. This search for meaning can lead to a spiritual awakening, where we find solace and guidance in our relationship with the transcendental.

Transformation and Renaissance:

Through the loss of loved ones, some people experience a profound transformation. In Alejandro Guerra’s case, this meant leaving behind old beliefs and attachments that no longer served him and embracing a new perspective on life. It is a journey of self-discovery that allows us to grow, heal and live more authentically.

Having everything and feeling nothing

Despite having achieved success in his professional life, earning academic degrees, securing stable employment and reaching high positions of responsibility, Alejandro was trapped in a downward spiral of dissatisfaction and disillusionment. Every day dawned with an overwhelming sense of emptiness, with no motivation to get out of bed.

The idea that achieving material success and accumulating wealth is the path to happiness is often promoted. Possession of a luxurious car, an impressive mansion, a high-status job and a bulging bank account are often considered symbols of success. However, this superficial narrative ignores a crucial aspect of life: the search for purpose and deeper meaning. As Alejandro says in the interview, when you get everything, you realize that happiness is not there.

Having things to be happy

While material comfort and professional success may bring us a temporary sense of satisfaction and comfort, they are no guarantee of lasting happiness. Many people, as in Alejandro Guerra’s story, often through personal experiences, that “having it all” in material terms does not necessarily translate into a full and meaningful life. In fact, the obsession with accumulating material possessions can be an obstacle on the path to authentic happiness.

Purpose as the Engine of Happiness:

Genuine happiness is deeply rooted in having purpose and meaning in life. This purpose can vary widely from person to person, but often involves contributing to the well-being of others, pursuing a personal passion or interest, or simply living in accordance with personal values and beliefs. In Alejandro’s case, he found his purpose with Wake Up, letting more people know everything he was learning so they would stop suffering. Finding meaning in what we do gave him a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment that material success alone cannot provide.

The Path of Transformation:

Alejandro’s story takes a momentous turn when he decides to seek professional help. He is admitted to a detoxification center, where he is diagnosed with work, substance and sex addiction. This turning point marks the beginning of his process of recovery and personal rediscovery.
During this period of introspection, Alejandro began to create drawings that helped him remember and understand deep aspects of himself. It was these illustrations that gave birth to what we know today as Wake up Platform.

The Awakening of Consciousness:

Throughout the interview, Ramiro Calle and Alejandro Guerra explore the concept of the awakening of consciousness. Ramiro shares his wisdom on how a person can become disidentified from the masks that hide their true essence to achieve a deeper and more authentic perception of themselves.

What is Identification according to Ramiro Calle?

Ramiro Calle describes identification as the act of becoming deeply attached to specific aspects of our personality, social roles, or material possessions, so that we come to believe that these elements are who we really are. This identification may be with job roles, social labels, personal relationships or even material possessions.

Identification with Roles:

On many occasions, we identify with the roles we play in society. For example, we might think of ourselves as just “the executive,” “the parent,” or “the student.” This identification can limit our perception of ourselves and what we are capable of doing.

Identification with Emotions:

Another common form of identification is with emotions. We cling to emotional states such as anger, fear or sadness and believe that they are an intrinsic part of our identity. This can lead to a lack of control over our emotions and a feeling of being trapped in a negative cycle.

Identification with the Body:

We may also identify strongly with our bodies, believing that our physical appearance defines our self-worth and self-image. This identification can lead to self-esteem problems and a constant search for physical perfection.

Identification with the Marks:

We identify with brands because we make them part of ourselves, they are our accessories, they are the props of the character we have built. The clothes we wear are a second skin that we believe define us. We put value on expensive clothes to give value to ourselves, just as we do with the car we carry or our cell phone, which are nowadays perceived as an extension of ourselves.

How to Free Yourself from Identification:

Ramiro Calle teaches that the first step to free oneself from identification is self-observation. We must become aware of which aspects of our lives we identify with. This process of self-assessment can be challenging, as we will often discover ingrained patterns in our minds.

Once we are aware of our identifications, we can begin to distance ourselves from them. This implies recognizing that we are not the roles, the emotions or the body. We are conscious beings experiencing these aspects, but we are not limited by them.

Alejandro tells throughout the interview with Ramiro that we all tend to identify ourselves because we do not know ourselves, we do not know who we are, society has no self-knowledge, so we seek to identify ourselves with groups that already have certain beliefs and values to make them our own. These groups can be political groups, soccer teams, rock bands, clothing, car and technology brands, which enslave us because we make them part of us and our identity.

The regular practice of meditation and mindfulness are powerful tools recommended by Ramiro Calle to help us let go of these identifications. Through these practices, we can cultivate greater mental clarity and a sense of inner peace, allowing us to live with authenticity and freeing us from self-imposed limitations.
Alejandro Guerra’s story and the creation of Wake up Platform is an inspiring testimony of how it is possible to transform adversity into a source of growth and positive change. This interview gives us a unique insight into a personal journey towards enlightenment and the creation of a platform aimed at helping others in their quest for authenticity and spiritual awakening.

The story of Alejandro Guerra and Wake up Platform reminds us that, despite the difficulties we face, there is always an opportunity for growth, transformation and connection to our true essence. Even though things may not go according to plan, they may be necessary for our development and learning. The awakening of consciousness is a path we can all embark on, and this interview offers an inspiring guide to begin that journey.
